If the label on your bathroom fan reads Broan 676-D / 2676F-A, start with the exact revision before ordering a motor or blower assembly. Broan’s current 676-D parts list identifies S99080517 as the motor and S97015157 as the original motor kit. The kit is discontinued, and Broan points to S97015162 as a possible replacement.
The important catch: the original 676-D is listed at 110 CFM, while S97015162 is an 80 CFM assembly. Confirm both physical fit and the ventilation your bathroom needs before accepting that change. See the official Broan 676-D parts diagram and list.
What do 676-D and 2676F-A mean?
These markings identify the fan or finish-assembly application. They are not the replacement motor’s part number. Broan’s own 97015157C assembly listing explicitly groups 676-D and 2676F-A together.
Broan’s older Model 676 specification sheet, preserved by a distributor, distinguishes the 2676F finish assembly from the 2687H rough-in housing. The housing is the fixed metal box; the removable blower assembly contains the motor, wheel and mounting plate. A grille is the visible cover. Ordering one does not automatically supply the others.
Before removing the cover to read an internal label, turn off the circuit at the service panel and prevent accidental re-energizing. Use a qualified person if you are unsure.
Keep the letters and hyphens when you search. Broan’s model-identification guidance says the full suffix matters. It places the label on standard bath fans near the internal outlet, with some models stamped on the motor plate instead. Photograph the complete label, plus any separate motor and housing markings.
Broan 676-D replacement parts to check
Use this as a parts-reference shortlist, then compare the exact listing with your installed unit.
| Part | Manufacturer reference | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Original complete blower assembly | S97015157 | Motor, blower wheel and mounting plate. Broan lists 676-D and marks this kit discontinued. |
| Current assembly option | S97015162 | 80 CFM, 2.5 sones; requires the specified compatible housing. Grille not included. |
| Motor only | S99080517 | A separate motor, not a complete blower kit. Have the wheel, mounting parts and housing checked too. |
| Replacement grille | S97013576 | Cover with springs; the listed grille size is 10-5/8 by 11-1/8 inches. |
The 676-D service list also identifies S99020276 as the blower wheel, S97015170 as the wire-panel/harness assembly and S97014922 as the housing. It marks the separate wheel and housing discontinued. A motor-only repair therefore needs more checking than simply matching the number on the motor.
S97015162 or C380BN: check fit and airflow
For S97015162, Broan specifies a compatible metal housing measuring 8 by 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 inches. Those are housing dimensions, not the grille size, ceiling cutout or shipping-box dimensions. Measure the correct component and compare its mounting arrangement with the installation document.
Broan also currently lists 676-D among the models supported by C380BN, an 80 CFM, 2.5-sone replacement assembly for that housing size. Its cover is sold separately. Treat C380BN as another documented option to verify, rather than assuming every retailer’s “fits 676” listing refers to the same part.
Documentation caveat: the current C380BN product page includes 676-D, but its linked installation guide has a shorter model list that omits it. That guide also excludes black-painted housings and requires an unpainted silver finish. If your labels, housing or mounting details do not line up, ask Broan to confirm the exact replacement before ordering. The same caution applies if the only readable marking is 2676F-A.
An 80 CFM assembly has a lower airflow rating than the original 110 CFM fan. Ask a qualified installer whether 80 CFM is suitable for the room and duct system. A part described as an “upgrade” for a smaller fan does not automatically increase this fan’s airflow.
Five checks before you buy
- Complete identification: Record 676-D, 2676F-A and any other markings exactly as printed. Keep photos rather than relying on a handwritten number alone.
- Which component failed: A damaged grille, a noisy motor and a damaged electrical receptacle call for different work. Describe the symptom and ask for diagnosis if you are unsure.
- Housing and mounting: Compare housing width, length and depth, finish, mounting tabs/slots and the motor’s plug arrangement with the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not alter parts to force a fit.
- Grille versus housing: The S97013576 cover dimensions are larger than the housing opening. A similar-looking or similarly sized cover does not establish blower compatibility.
- What the seller actually supplies: Check manufacturer, full part number, included components and return terms. A listing headed “replacement for S97015157” may be an aftermarket product rather than a genuine Broan assembly.
Why S97017065 and other “676” parts need caution
The earlier revisions have a different parts history. Broan’s archived 676 parts sheet separates assembly 97017065 for 676-A/B/C from assembly 97015157C for 676-D/2676F-A. It also distinguishes their motors and mounting brackets.
Do not buy an earlier-revision assembly based only on “676” in a title. Likewise, a marketplace listing that groups 684-D, 678-G and 676-D together is not sufficient evidence that every part mentioned in that listing is interchangeable. Match the specific replacement to the specific application in Broan’s documentation.
Safe inspection and replacement
Before removing the cover, cleaning or inspecting the fan, turn off its circuit at the service panel and prevent accidental re-energizing. Do not rely on the bathroom wall switch alone. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions; installation and electrical work belong with a qualified person under applicable codes.
Stop if the housing, receptacle or wiring shows damage. Burning smells, scorch marks or repeated breaker trips need professional attention. Do not splice, bypass protection or modify a plug to make a replacement fit. A plug-in assembly still requires a safe, undamaged installation.
Broan’s motor-kit safety instructions require outdoor discharge for ducted fans. Installation over a tub or shower requires appropriate product marking and GFCI protection. The guide also calls for gloves and eye protection around sharp edges.
If retaining the housing is unsuitable, have an installer assess a complete fan replacement, including the ceiling opening, mounting, duct connection and electrical requirements. A new fan with the same CFM rating is not automatically a drop-in replacement.
Common questions
Can I replace just the motor?
S99080517 is the motor reference listed for 676-D. Whether that is the right repair depends on the condition of the rest of the assembly. Have a qualified person inspect it, especially if the wheel is damaged or the fan has been modified.
Will S97015162 preserve the original 110 CFM rating?
No. Broan lists S97015162 at 80 CFM. Choose it only after confirming that its airflow and physical fit meet your needs.
What if the label is missing or the parts list is unclear?
Use Broan’s Product Support Group. It handles legacy-product identification and service-part lookup. Provide photos of the housing, model markings, motor plate, plug location and measurements, and ask for the current approved part number.
