The best Imagine Dragons CD for you depends on the songs you want and the edition you are buying. Night Visions is a straightforward starting point for “Radioactive,” “Demons” and “It’s Time.” Smoke + Mirrors Deluxe is worth comparing if you want that album with additional material. Mercury – Act 1 suits listeners looking for “Wrecked,” “Follow You” and “Cutthroat,” but the original single-disc release is different from the later Mercury – Acts 1 & 2 set.
These are album and edition recommendations based on official track lists and identifiable CD listings. Musical taste is personal, and a longer track list does not automatically make a release the right purchase. Start with a favorite song, then check the physical format, exact edition and condition before paying.
Three Imagine Dragons CDs to compare
Night Visions: a starting point for the early singles
Imagine Dragons Night Visions, Standard Audio CD, 1 Disc
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
The band’s official standard-CD track list includes “Radioactive,” “It’s Time,” “Demons” and “On Top of the World.” If those are the songs that brought you to Imagine Dragons, this is a sensible first album rather than an expensive collector’s package bought mainly for extras.
The selected listing is an Interscope single audio CD. It should not be confused with Night Visions Deluxe, the expanded two-CD release or the four-CD-plus-DVD anniversary box. The familiar cover artwork appears across editions, so the front image alone cannot tell you which tracks are inside.
Choose it when: you want the original album’s main sequence on one disc. Check first: whether a particular bonus track you want appears on this pressing. A standard copy is not a substitute for an expanded edition simply because both say Night Visions.
Smoke + Mirrors Deluxe: compare the actual bonus tracks
Smoke + Mirrors includes “Shots,” “Gold” and “I Bet My Life.” This selected KIDinaKORNER/Interscope listing identifies a one-disc deluxe release, with its description naming “Monster,” “Battle Cry” and “Warriors” among the extra material.
The word deluxe needs special care here. The official UK deluxe page has a different displayed track list from the selected US marketplace listing. Retailer track tables can also be incomplete. Do not assume that every deluxe CD contains the same songs, or copy the track count from a streaming edition.
Choose it when: you already know you want this album and the seller’s actual disc contains your preferred extras. Check first: a photograph of the rear inlay or an edition-specific track list, especially for an import or used copy. Ask about the song you want by name; “deluxe version” alone is not a precise answer.
Mercury – Act 1: the original single-album purchase
The official Act 1 CD page lists 13 tracks, including “My Life,” “Wrecked,” “Follow You” and “Cutthroat.” The selected listing is the 2021 single-disc album, which makes sense if you specifically want that release or are filling a gap in an existing collection.
Before ordering, compare it with the official Mercury – Acts 1 & 2 two-CD edition. That is a separate package combining the two acts; its description includes “Enemy” featuring JID and Act 2 material such as “Bones.” Neither song appears in the official original Act 1 track list cited above. Someone buying the original Act 1 CD for “Bones” would choose the wrong release.
Choose it when: the original Act 1 is what you want. Check first: whether the combined two-disc set better matches your wish list, and whether you would duplicate a disc you already own.
Find the album from the song you want
You do not need to collect chronologically. Use the song as a shortcut, then examine the edition:
- “Radioactive,” “Demons” or “It’s Time”: start with Night Visions.
- “Shots,” “Gold” or “I Bet My Life”: look at Smoke + Mirrors; compare standard and deluxe contents.
- “Believer,” “Thunder” or “Whatever It Takes”: the official Evolve CD track list includes all three.
- “Wrecked,” “Follow You” or “Cutthroat”: the original Mercury – Act 1 includes them.
- “Bones”: compare Mercury – Acts 1 & 2, rather than assuming Act 1 contains it.
- “Eyes Closed” or “Nice to Meet You”: look at the official LOOM standard CD. Check separately for any collaboration, remix or alternate version you have heard online.
Standard, deluxe, expanded or box set?
A standard CD is usually the simplest way to own an album’s main program. A deluxe or expanded edition may add tracks, a second disc, alternative packaging or other extras. A box set may add video and memorabilia. Those labels describe different packages, and their meaning can vary by country and release year.
For listening, compare the tracks you will actually play. For collecting, also compare the catalog number, barcode, booklet, packaging and any advertised extras. If a used anniversary set originally had several discs, confirm that all are present. A missing DVD or booklet may matter to a collector even if the main audio disc works.
Do not pay for an “exclusive” designation without identifying what is exclusive. It could mean packaging rather than an additional song. Likewise, a later copyright date does not by itself establish a remaster or improved sound. This guide makes no claim that one pressing sounds better than another.
Check the listing before ordering
- Confirm Audio CD. Marketplace pages may place streaming, downloads, vinyl and CD options together. Check the selected format and your basket.
- Match the artist. A tribute recording, lullaby adaptation or karaoke album is a different recording even when Imagine Dragons appears prominently in the title.
- Identify the edition. Match album title, disc count, desired tracks and, when relevant, barcode or catalog number.
- Read the individual offer. Condition, included inserts, dispatch location and returns belong to the particular seller’s offer, not just the shared product page.
- Compare delivered cost. Include shipping and any applicable import costs. Several inexpensive used discs can become costly when each comes from a different seller.
Buying a used CD or giving one as a gift
For a used copy, ask whether the disc has been play-checked, whether the booklet and rear insert are included, and whether the seller’s photographs show the actual item. Light marks, a cracked case and missing artwork are different issues. A generic stock cover does not document the condition of the disc you will receive.
For a gift, first check that the recipient owns a CD player or compatible optical drive and does not already have that edition. If you know only one favorite song, the song-to-album guide above is a safer starting point than a random deluxe package. Keep the receipt and review the seller’s rules for opened media.
Which one should you buy first?
Choose Night Visions for the early singles, Smoke + Mirrors Deluxe when its verified extras matter to you, or Mercury – Act 1 for the original 2021 album. If your favorite track comes from Evolve, LOOM or Act 2, buy the edition that actually contains it. The right CD is the one with the music and packaging you want, in the condition and format you expect.
