The best generator for mobile detailing depends on the equipment you run together. The Honda EU3200i is a useful middle option for a compact 120-volt setup; the Champion 201318 offers more continuous output when you can accommodate its greater weight; and the Honda EU2200i suits lighter loads that stay within its smaller capacity. Check your vacuum, extractor, pressure washer and heater requirements before choosing any of them.
These picks compare documented specifications and practical trade-offs. Their advertised maximum wattage is not the power available continuously, and none provides 240-volt output.
Best generators for mobile detailing at a glance
| Generator | Best fit | Continuous / maximum output | AC outlets and limits | Dry weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honda EU3200i | A compact setup needing more capacity than a small carry-handle generator | 2,600 / 3,200 W; 120 V; 21.7 A rated | 20 A, 125 V duplex; 30 A, 125 V locking outlet. The generator’s total rated output still limits use. | 59.1 lb |
| Champion 201318 | Higher 120 V loads and a wheeled generator | 3,500 running / 4,500 starting W; 120 V; 29.2 A running | 5-20R 20 A duplex and TT-30R RV outlet; 29.2 A available at 120 V from the TT-30R within the total rating | 92.2 lb |
| Honda EU2200i, standard model | Lighter equipment used within a 1,800 W continuous budget | 1,800 / 2,200 W; 120 V; 15 A rated | 20 A, 125 V duplex; total rated output is 15 A | 47.4 lb |
A receptacle’s 125 V marking is its hardware rating; these generators supply nominal 120 V. Outlet ratings do not increase generator capacity. Specifications: Honda EU3200i, Champion 201318 and Honda EU2200i.
1. Honda EU3200i: a compact middle option
The EU3200i combines fuel injection, recoil starting and a carry-handle enclosure. Its 2,600 W continuous rating gives it more room than the EU2200i while remaining considerably lighter than the Champion below. It makes sense when portability matters and your measured running and starting loads fit its limits.
The main compromise is capacity: a 3,200 W model name does not make this a 3,200 W continuous supply. A 20 A outlet also cannot deliver the full generator rating through one ordinary power strip. Use equipment and distribution matched to the receptacle, circuit and generator limits.
Honda identifies EU3200IAN as the 49-state version and EU3200IAC as the 50-state version. Confirm the exact emissions version with the dealer. Check the EU3200i specifications and Honda buying options.
2. Champion 201318: more continuous power
The Champion 201318 is the strongest option here by running output. Its wheels and folding handle help with moving it on the ground, but loading a 92.2 lb generator into a vehicle still needs a realistic handling plan. Choose it when your actual equipment requires the added capacity and you have room for it.
This exact model is gasoline powered with recoil starting. Similar-looking Champion listings include other fuel and starting configurations. Its TT-30R is a 120 V RV receptacle, not a 240 V supply. Connecting several tools requires appropriately rated distribution and protection; an adapter does not make a 20 A branch capable of carrying 29.2 A. The unit does not have built-in GFCI receptacles. Read the 201318 manual.

3. Honda EU2200i: for lighter loads
The standard EU2200i is the easiest of these three to carry by dry weight. It is worth considering for a smaller setup that runs one suitable high-draw tool at a time, with room for that tool’s starting demand. Its 1,800 W continuous limit is the important number.
Choose a larger supply if the combined load or a motor’s start exceeds that allowance. The standard EU2200i covered here has a duplex outlet; do not confuse it with the separate Companion version and its different outlet arrangement. Honda lists the standard EU2200ITAN as unavailable for sale in California. Check the standard EU2200i and Honda dealer options.
Shopping used requires an extra check: some older EU2200i generators were covered by 2019 and 2020 recalls. Have Honda verify the exact serial number and completed remedies before use; the model name alone does not establish recall status.
How to size a generator for your detailing equipment
- List each electrical load. Read the actual model’s nameplate and manual for voltage, running current or watts, and starting requirements. A gasoline pressure washer may need no generator for its engine; an electric washer does.
- Decide what runs together. Add simultaneous running loads, then allow for the additional starting demand of the motor that can start while the others are running. An extractor’s heater and vacuum may overlap. Do not assume that every motor uses the same surge multiplier.
- Check the whole connection. Generator output, individual outlet and circuit ratings, extension-cord capacity and any distribution equipment must all suit the load. For motor equipment, use the manufacturer’s current or VA requirement when watts alone do not describe the demand.
- Confirm the operating conditions. Account for manufacturer guidance on altitude, temperature, cord length and starting behavior. If starting demand is undocumented, obtain it from the equipment maker or have a qualified person assess it before buying.
For a simple hypothetical example, a 1,200 W vacuum plus a 1,500 W heater totals 2,700 W before the vacuum’s starting demand. That already exceeds the EU3200i’s continuous rating and represents 22.5 A at 120 V, above a 20 A circuit. Although it is below the Champion’s total running rating, that alone does not establish a workable connection or enough starting capacity. The EU3200i manual explains why appliance starting requirements and generator limits both matter.
Safe placement matters as much as wattage
Run a fuel-burning generator outdoors in open air, at least 20 feet from buildings, with exhaust directed away from doors, windows and vents. Never run one in a garage, van, trailer or other enclosed or partly enclosed space. Opening doors does not make that safe. Honda requires completely removing its portable generator from a vehicle or trailer before operation; keep exhaust away from vehicle openings too. A carbon-monoxide shutoff is a backup feature, not permission to relax placement rules. See CPSC generator guidance and the EU2200i safety instructions.
Keep the generator and electrical connections dry and out of the wash area; do not operate with wet hands or in rain or snow. Follow the exact manual’s GFCI guidance, including Champion’s requirement for GFCI protection in damp or highly conductive areas. This does not authorize operating a wet generator. These models use a floating neutral; have a qualified electrician determine the grounding and protection needed for your installation. Never backfeed building wiring. Stop the engine and let it cool before refueling outdoors, away from ignition sources. Maintain the maker’s airflow and combustible-material clearances as well as safe exhaust placement.
When a small power station makes sense
A battery power station can be useful for lights, chargers or another low-draw load only when its continuous output, surge capability and stored energy meet that equipment’s needs. Watt-hours describe stored energy, not the size of motor it can start. Do not treat a small power bank or UPS as a substitute for a generator capable of running your detailing tools.
If your existing kit includes a BISSELL Steam Shot in the 39N7 series, including 39N7V, or a Steamfast SF-717 travel iron, stop using it and follow the applicable recall instructions. These are tools, not power sources. See the BISSELL Steam Shot recall and Steamfast expanded recall.
Frequently asked questions
What size generator do I need for mobile detailing?
Add the loads that operate together and allow for motor starting demand. Then check voltage, outlets, circuits and cords. There is no single wattage that suits every vacuum, extractor, heater and pressure washer combination.
Can a 2,200-watt generator run a detailing setup?
It can suit some lighter setups, but the Honda EU2200i provides 1,800 W continuously. Your equipment must fit that limit and its starting capability. A 2,200 W maximum rating is not a promise that several tools will run together.
Can I operate a generator inside my detailing van?
No. Remove the portable generator and use it outdoors in open air, away from doors, windows and vents. An open van door, exhaust hose or carbon-monoxide shutoff does not make indoor or in-vehicle operation safe.
Will a 30-amp outlet run 240-volt equipment?
Not on these generators. Their AC output is 120 V, including the Honda EU3200i locking outlet and Champion 201318 TT-30R. An adapter cannot change the generator’s voltage or increase its capacity.
Can I run a vacuum and extractor at the same time?
Only if their combined running load, overlapping heaters and motor starts fit the generator and every connected circuit. Check the exact equipment manuals and connection ratings before assuming simultaneous operation is possible.
