Polaris Leader Hose: D50, D52 and MAXX Section Options

Compare D50 and D52 pressure-side leader hoses and a MAXX-compatible Twist-Lock section, with exact part numbers, package limits and installation checks.

The right Polaris leader hose depends on the cleaner model and the hose system already installed. For a pressure-side cleaner whose parts diagram calls for it, D50 is the 10-foot gray leader hose; D52 is the black version listed in the 3900 Sport/P39 manual. A Polaris MAXX uses a different Twist-Lock suction-hose system. Its cleaner-end leader includes a float and flow regulator, so a loose replacement section is only part of that assembly.

These three choices cover specific replacement jobs. Start with the model on your cleaner and its parts diagram, then match the part number, color and package contents before ordering.

Polaris leader hose options at a glance

Exact part Best use What you are buying Main limit
Polaris D50 Replacing a gray pressure-side leader specified by the cleaner’s parts list One 10-foot leader-hose length Hose only; installed length must be set for the pool
Polaris D52 Replacing the black leader listed for the 3900 Sport/P39 One black 10-foot leader-hose length Confirm D52 in the exact model diagram; black color alone does not establish fit
Zodiac R0527700 Replacing one Twist-Lock section in a compatible suction-hose system, including the MAXX parts list One corrugated hose section with Twist-Lock ends No complete MAXX leader assembly, float or flow regulator included

1. Polaris D50: the gray pressure-side leader replacement

D50 is the most direct choice when the damaged section is the leader identified as D50 in your pressure cleaner’s diagram. The Polaris 280 manual lists a 10-foot D50 leader separately from the regular feed hose, swivels and back-up valve. The 3900 Sport/P39 parts list also identifies D50 as its gray leader.

PoolZoom’s exact D50 listing includes the 180, 280, 380 and 3900 in its application information. For an older cleaner, modified hose assembly or another model variant, compare that listing with the diagram for your own unit before buying. Some stores describe the light-colored hose as white; the part number is a better identifier than a photograph’s shade.

Choose it for: a localized leader-hose replacement when the surrounding assembly is serviceable and your parts list specifies D50. Buying the single length lets you avoid purchasing a complete feed-hose assembly for one damaged section.

Check first: the listing is for hose, not a bundle of floats, nuts, swivels, wall connector and back-up valve. Identify any other damaged components separately. The supplied 10-foot length is not a promise that it can be installed untrimmed in every pool.

2. Polaris D52: the black pressure-side option

D52 is the exact black 10-foot leader hose shown in the Polaris 3900 Sport/P39 manual. That parts list distinguishes D52 from the gray D50 leader, and also separates both from D47 black and D45 gray feed-hose sections.

Choose D52 when you are maintaining the specified black hose assembly. It has a clear purchasing advantage over an ambiguously titled “black Polaris hose”: you can match an exact manufacturer part number. Its color does not establish greater durability or better cleaning than D50.

Choose it for: a 3900 Sport/P39 assembly calling for D52, or another cleaner whose own parts diagram explicitly specifies that part.

Check first: do not assume every Black Max cleaner or every black tube uses D52. The retailer lists several applications, but the model-specific diagram should decide. This purchase is one hose length; a back-up valve or complete hose assembly is a separate item. D52 also needs the correct installed length and float arrangement for the cleaner and pool.

3. Zodiac R0527700: one Twist-Lock section for a suction system

R0527700 belongs to a different type of cleaner hose. Leslie’s sells it as a single Twist-Lock section and includes it in its Polaris MAXX parts list. The product page also names Zodiac Baracuda T5 Duo, MX6, MX8 and MX8 Elite applications. Confirm your model and connector system rather than relying on the shared Zodiac/Polaris ownership.

For MAXX owners, the important distinction is package contents. The MAXX manual identifies a leader section with a hose float and a separate Flow Regulator Valve. R0527700 alone does not supply that complete cleaner-end setup. If replacing the leader’s hose section, the required float and regulator must be present and positioned according to the manual.

Choose it for: replacing one damaged Twist-Lock section while retaining a correctly configured, compatible system. It is useful when one section is damaged and the rest are sound.

Check first: the package should say R0527700, single section. Do not confuse it with a multipack or assume accessories pictured elsewhere are included. It does not replace D50 or D52. Polaris also describes the ATLAS as using friction-fit hose, so a shared brand name is insufficient evidence of interchangeability.

Match the failed part before comparing offers

A leader hose, ordinary feed-hose section, back-up valve and sweep tail have different jobs and different part numbers. On the 3900 Sport/P39 diagram, D50/D52 identify leaders, D45/D47 identify feed-hose sections, and G52/G62 identify back-up valves. A listing for G52 is therefore not a replacement hose, even when “hose” appears in its description.

The Polaris 360 is another reason to check the diagram: its owner’s manual shows a different hose connection and sizing procedure. Do not order D50 or D52 for a 360 just because a retailer groups pressure cleaners together. A garden-reel lead-in hose, washing-machine hose or manual vacuum hose likewise has no established fit from the word “leader.”

Compare total replacement cost only after matching the exact hose and identifying any additional hardware needed. A hose-only purchase and a complete assembly are different offers. If the title, model field and package photograph disagree, have the seller resolve the discrepancy before paying.

Installation boundaries that affect the purchase

Measure before cutting. For example, the 280 instructions size the leader to the pool’s greatest depth and then adjust the remaining feed hose for pool reach. That pressure-side procedure must not be transferred to the MAXX’s joined Twist-Lock sections. Use the instructions for the exact cleaner, including its float positions and flow checks. Polaris recommends professional installation for best results; get a pool professional’s help if the existing assembly has been altered or you cannot identify its components.

Switch off the relevant pumps before opening hose connections. Suction-side systems present an entrapment hazard: keep body parts, hair, clothing and jewelry away from open suction connections, and use the safety fitting required by the manufacturer. The MAXX hose and cleaner must be filled with water as directed before operation. Remove the cleaner before swimming or shock treatment, and follow the manual’s instructions for restarting it.

For a straightforward replacement, order the exact part already specified in your cleaner’s documentation. D50 and D52 address specific pressure-side leaders; R0527700 addresses a single compatible suction-hose section. If several components are damaged, ask the dealer to identify the correct complete assembly before piecing together individual parts.
