Chevy Tahoe Door Lights: Dorman Replacement and Fit Guide

Check Dorman 923-103 against your Tahoe’s original 15021517 door-lamp reference, plus door position, connector and puddle-light differences.

Buy Chevy Tahoe door lights by lamp location, model year and original part number. A door-panel courtesy lamp, a mirror puddle lamp and an illuminated sill plate are different components. A search result that groups them together can lead to the wrong purchase.

For an older door-panel assembly, one useful aftermarket reference is Dorman 923-103, which cross-references GM 15021517. Treat it as a part to verify against your vehicle, not a universal recommendation for every Tahoe.

First identify the light you actually need

  • Door-panel courtesy lamp: An assembly mounted in the interior door trim. Match its lens shape, attachment points, connector and side.
  • Mirror puddle lamp: A light underneath the exterior mirror that illuminates the ground. Its fit depends on the mirror equipment.
  • Illuminated sill plate: A separate trim accessory at the doorway. It may require its own wiring or vehicle-specific installation procedure.

A rear brake or tail-lamp assembly does not replace any of these, even if the retailer title also contains “Tahoe lights.”

Dorman 923-103: a factory-style door-panel replacement

Dorman’s official page lists 15021517 as the direct OE cross-reference. It describes a plastic lamp housing and lens with one included white incandescent bulb, rated at 12 VDC and 3.84 watts.

This is an aftermarket candidate when the catalog confirms that cross-reference for your Tahoe. It is not an LED conversion, a pair or a four-door kit: the stated package contains one interior door reflector light.

Check Dorman 923-103 and use its vehicle-fit tool.

Check the OE number and door position

GM identifies 15021517 as a driver-side door courtesy lamp. Use the number on the existing assembly or a dealer’s VIN check to confirm that it is the correct reference. A family-level vehicle list does not replace the door-position and equipment check.

Do not interchange it with an assembly specified for GM 15021518 merely because the lens looks similar. Matching voltage does not establish a matching connector, mounting arrangement or side.

Use GM’s original-part listing to check the reference. This is fitment context for the Dorman replacement, rather than a second selected product.

What about LED logo or puddle lights?

Start with the factory equipment. Chevrolet’s official mirror-puddle-light accessory information says its replacement kit is for vehicles already equipped with compatible factory puddle lights. It does not establish that a reflector-only door panel or a different mirror can accept the accessory.

Before selecting an LED kit, verify the exact model year, mirror or door configuration, connector, required harness and left/right orientation. Avoid assuming that an adapter described as “CANbus” resolves every electrical compatibility issue. If installation requires drilling or splicing, review the actual instructions and use a qualified installer when necessary.

Read Chevrolet’s factory-puddle-light compatibility requirements. This link explains the equipment requirement; it is not a blanket Tahoe fitment endorsement.

Before replacing a lamp that will not light

A cracked lens or broken mounting tab is a clear reason to inspect the assembly. If an intact lamp does not illuminate, the fault may instead involve its bulb, connection or vehicle lighting controls. Have the fault diagnosed before buying several assemblies.

Follow the vehicle’s service instructions, let hot bulbs cool and avoid probing or modifying unfamiliar door wiring. After replacement, check that the lamp switches on and off normally and that the housing is securely retained.

Bottom line

For door-panel repairs, verify the original number first, then consider Dorman 923-103 only when the 15021517 cross-reference and vehicle fit are confirmed. For a puddle-light upgrade, confirm the factory equipment and exact accessory application. No single “Chevy Tahoe door light” fits every year, trim and location.
