A Harley-Davidson dog harness should be chosen by its exact model and your dog’s measurements, then by the logo or color. Harley-branded pet harnesses have existed in several different designs, including Coastal Pet’s Designer Wrap line and adjustable Comfort Soft harnesses. Their size names are not interchangeable.
The older Amazon listings associated with this page could not be reliably matched to a current exact product. Rather than send you to unrelated harnesses under a Harley-Davidson heading, this guide explains how to identify the branded options, check a dealer listing and get a sensible fit. It is based on manufacturer and dealer information, without hands-on testing claims.
Which Harley-Davidson harness are you looking for?
| Design | What we could verify | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal Pet Harley-Davidson Designer Wrap | A genuine licensed historical product line, documented in Coastal Pet advertising | Exact model code, original size chart and condition of older stock |
| Harley-Davidson Adjustable Comfort Soft, Pink Barb Wire, Large | A dealer listing identifies 1-inch straps and a 26–38-inch adjustment range | Whether that range suits your dog and whether the seller can supply that exact item |
| A generic orange-and-black or biker-style harness | A color scheme or costume style alone does not establish Harley licensing | Actual maker, sizing, leash attachment and intended use |
The historical Designer Wrap line
A 2014 Coastal Pet advertisement identifies its Harley-Davidson Designer Wrap Adjustable Harness as an officially licensed product. That establishes that the branded line was real. It does not establish that every similar-looking harness offered today is genuine, currently manufactured or available in your dog’s size.
When browsing an older listing, ask for photographs of the product label, packaging and adjustment chart. Look for a complete model code rather than a short description such as “Harley mesh harness, small.” Different patterns and generations can share similar wording while having different measurements.
If the seller cannot confirm the sizing, skip the listing. A collectible logo is not worth a walking harness that slips, rubs or cannot be adjusted properly. For used items, inspect the whole harness rather than judging its condition from the front decoration.
A specific Comfort Soft dealer listing
Maidstone Harley-Davidson lists a Coastal Pet Adjustable Comfort Soft harness in Large, Pink Barb Wire, under code PRI-H6945HPBW38. The listed strap width is 1 inch, and the adjustment range is 26–38 inches.
This is a different design from the small mesh wrap harnesses pictured in many older roundups. Its range is relevant only to this specific Large version. Do not transfer the measurement to another product because its listing also says “Comfort Soft” or “Harley-Davidson.”
The dealer is in the United Kingdom. Check the selected product, delivery destination, total cost and return conditions if you are shopping from another country. A page remaining online does not guarantee that a size can be shipped to you. Ask the seller for clarification when the label and description disagree.
Measure for the harness you intend to buy
Coastal Pet’s fitting guidance starts with girth: the measurement around the broadest part of the chest just behind the front legs. Measure with the dog standing, then compare that number with the chart for the exact harness. Weight is useful supporting information, but it does not replace a chest measurement.
For a wrap or vest design, also check any neck-opening measurement supplied by the maker. The chest may fit while the opening is too tight or loose. Dogs with the same body weight can have very different chest depth, neck shape and shoulder position.
Once fitted, Coastal recommends space for two fingers between harness and body, without bunched skin or marks in the coat. Check that the harness stays positioned during a short, supervised indoor walk. If it shifts toward the throat, catches behind the front legs or allows the dog to back out, adjust it or choose a different design.
Buying checklist for older or hard-to-find stock
- Match identity: confirm the maker, product code, pattern and size on the actual label.
- Match measurements: ask for the original adjustment range and, for a vest, neck-opening information.
- Check hardware: look at the buckle, adjusters, metal leash ring and stitching around load-bearing connections.
- Check fabric: avoid frayed webbing, split mesh, stretched openings or damage hidden by the decorative panel.
- Keep an exit option: confirm whether you can return it after a careful indoor fit check.
New-looking packaging does not tell you how a harness was stored. Request close-up photographs if the listing uses only a stock image. Do not modify the straps, replace a buckle with an unmatched part or sew through a load-bearing section simply to make a scarce size work.
Walking gear and vehicle restraint are separate decisions
A Harley-Davidson logo does not make a dog harness suitable for motorcycle transport or prove crash protection. Treat the products discussed here as walking accessories unless the manufacturer supplies specific vehicle-use instructions and evidence for that exact model.
The Center for Pet Safety publishes independent travel-product test results. Use model-specific travel information when choosing equipment for a vehicle; a seller’s casual use of “car harness” is not enough. Do not improvise motorcycle tethers from a walking leash and harness.
If you cannot find the right branded size
Prioritize a well-fitting everyday harness. You can look separately at Harley-Davidson’s official dog-accessory category for branded items, but check each item’s intended purpose. A decorative bandana does not provide a leash attachment, and a matching collar is not a replacement for the harness your dog needs.
For a gift, obtain the dog’s measurements or choose a non-sized item the owner wants. Avoid guessing a harness size from breed alone. A practical alternative is to let the owner select the harness after a fit check and give the branded accessory separately.
Common questions
Are all Harley-Davidson dog harnesses made by Coastal Pet?
Coastal Pet is documented as a licensee for the historical line discussed here. That is not proof about every present-day listing. Check the actual manufacturer and licensing information on the product you plan to buy.
Is a mesh harness automatically a no-pull harness?
No. Mesh describes material or construction. Control characteristics depend on the design, attachment point, fit and how the dog walks. Do not buy it expecting pulling to disappear because the material looks soft.
Can I use a larger size and tighten it completely?
Only if the manufacturer’s range covers your dog’s measurements and the harness fits correctly in practice. A larger vest may still have the wrong neck opening or panel proportions. Choose the correct range rather than relying on the most extreme adjustment.
