The most useful check when buying fabric storage bins 13×13 is the measurement of the shelf opening. “13-inch” may describe a bin’s width, a rounded size category, or a basket that is actually 15 inches deep. A bin measuring exactly 13 inches across can also be too tight for a cubby with exactly 13 inches of clear space.
For a matching set with labels, compare DECOMOMO’s 13-inch six-pack. For visible contents, StorageWorks has a separate clear-window three-pack. Its opaque PVC-front four-pack is slightly smaller at 12¾ inches per side according to the manufacturer. IKEA DRÖNA is a deeper option explicitly designed for KALLAX. The guide below compares published specifications; we have not load-tested, washed or measured these products ourselves.
Measure three dimensions, then leave usable clearance
Measure the narrowest clear width, depth and height of the opening, inside the dividers. The outside dimensions of the shelving unit do not tell you the usable space inside each cubby. Check for shelf lips, protruding hardware, a recessed back panel and doors that reduce the opening.
- Width: compare the widest part of the assembled bin, including any rim or projecting handle.
- Depth: decide whether the bin must sit flush with the front. A 15-inch-deep basket will not disappear into a 13-inch-deep closed-back cubby.
- Height: leave room to move the bin without scraping its top and to keep contents below the shelf above.
- Access: check whether you can grasp the handle and pull the bin straight out in the intended position.
Clearance requirements are product-specific. For example, a DII Lattice Gray listing specifies a 13-inch cube and recommends an internal opening of at least 13.25 inches in each direction. That is a useful warning against a zero-clearance fit, not a universal rule for every brand. If the manufacturer gives no tolerance, ask for the assembled outer dimensions and test one bin before buying a full wall of them.
A nominal 13-inch cube also does not provide 13 inches of clear interior storage. Fabric, reinforcement and the base use some of that space. If a particular binder, game box or folded item must fit, compare it with the bin’s internal measurements.
Four options with different strengths
All measurements below are stated width × depth × height in inches. Package counts refer to bins, not to the number of shelf openings shown in a lifestyle photograph.
| Product and selected version | Dimensions | Count | Useful feature | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DECOMOMO label-holder cubes, Sage Green, 13-inch | 13 × 13 × 13 | 6 | Front labels; two handles | Select 13-inch; other sizes share the listing |

DECOMOMO label-holder six-pack: for sorting several categories
The Green 13-inch manufacturer variant is model 22065GN13. Its nonwoven exterior and polyester lining are supported by board reinforcement, with faux-leather handles and label holders. The Amazon listing identifies this same SKU as Sage Green, six bins, each 13 inches in all three dimensions.
This is a practical format for separating socks, small toys, craft supplies or other everyday categories. Labels are especially helpful when every front looks the same. The maker claims an 11-pound capacity; that is a published product limit, not an independent test result or permission to exceed the shelf’s own limit. Its care guidance calls for spot-cleaning with mild soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding bleach, harsh chemicals and abrasive tools.
The following box is for the verified six-pack. It is a different product from DECOMOMO’s rectangular 15 × 11 × 9.5-inch three-pack and its rope-handle baskets.

StorageWorks Clear Window Large: for seeing what is inside
The Beige/Large clear-window set, model SW0100CLBN0Q3, contains three 13-inch cubes. The front uses PVC mesh, with a fabric body, cardboard reinforcement and faux-leather pull tabs at the front and back. The bins fold flat when empty.
The window is useful when you would rather recognize the contents than maintain labels. It also leaves those contents more visible in the room. Check the selected size carefully: this product’s Medium option is an 11-inch cube. We did not find a product-specific numeric load limit or cleaning method on the manufacturer’s page, so do not borrow either from a different StorageWorks basket.
StorageWorks PVC-front Medium: for a more concealed front
The Black/Medium Cube Organizer Baskets, model SW0120ALKQ4, are a four-pack with a PVC faux-leather front, nonwoven fabric sides, board reinforcement and MDF front support. A hard-plastic front pull and fabric side grips offer different ways to handle them. They remain folding storage bins, despite the more structured front.
The manufacturer lists 12¾ inches per side; the corresponding Amazon listing gives 13 inches. Use the more precise maker figure for initial planning, then verify the seller’s current dimensions. An extra quarter inch of nominal clearance is not a guarantee of an easy fit. No numeric load rating or product-specific care method was established for this version.
IKEA DRÖNA: a deeper KALLAX option
IKEA’s black DRÖNA box, article 605.084.30, measures 13 inches wide, 15 inches deep and 13 inches high. IKEA explicitly identifies it as fitting KALLAX, so it is a useful option when that is the shelving you own. It is not a true 13 × 13 × 13-inch cube for a shallower cabinet.
The box combines polyester fabric, a paperboard insert and polypropylene lining, with integrated fabric handles. IKEA’s care directions specify a vacuum or lint roller and prohibit washing, bleaching, tumble drying, ironing and dry cleaning. Each package contains one box; a checkout minimum is an ordering rule, not a multi-bin package.
Folding bins can have stiff sides without being rigid containers
Most fabric cubes gain their shape from removable bases, cardboard, fiberboard or a supported front. “Hard-sided” does not necessarily mean a permanently rigid plastic box. If compact storage matters, check what comes out and how the empty bin folds. Put every support panel in place before loading it.
Choose handles for how you will use the bin. A front pull is convenient for sliding a lightly loaded basket out of a cubby. Side grips make it easier to lift with two hands. A strap’s appearance alone does not establish a carrying capacity. For heavier contents, support the base during lifting and follow both the bin maker’s guidance and the furniture’s load limit.
A soft-sided basket is usually more useful for grouping flexible, lightweight items than for acting as a freestanding filing cabinet. For a dense stack of books, records or tools, look for a container and shelf with explicit limits for that load. Do not treat “sturdy,” a thick-looking handle or a photograph of books as a numerical rating.
Care, moisture and package value
Fabric construction does not automatically mean machine washable. Water can reach the supporting board through the fabric, seams or base. Follow the exact product’s care label, use only the recommended cleaning method, and let a spot-cleaned area dry before returning the bin to the shelf.
These open bins are intended for indoor organization. A wipeable front or a coated fabric does not establish waterproof storage for the entire bin. Do not use an unverified waterproof claim as a reason to store damp towels, leaking bottles or belongings that need protection from a wet floor.
Compare value by the number of usable bins you need. A six-pack can make sense for six categories, while a three-pack may suit alternating open and closed cubbies. For any offer, divide the full set cost by the number of bins, then account for unused extras, delivery and the cost of returning an unsuitable size. A larger bundle has little value if its depth or height prevents it from fitting.
Common questions
Will every 13×13 fabric bin fit IKEA KALLAX?
No universal fit should be assumed. Check all three assembled outer dimensions, the actual opening and any projecting handles. IKEA specifically identifies the 13 × 15 × 13-inch DRÖNA as fitting KALLAX; that statement does not verify other brands.
Can I wash fabric cube bins in a washing machine?
Only if the exact product’s instructions permit it. Board reinforcement can be vulnerable to water. The DECOMOMO set here specifies spot-cleaning, while IKEA DRÖNA should be vacuumed or lint-rolled and not washed.
Can I stack filled fabric cubes?
Do not assume an open folding bin is designed to support another loaded bin. Use separate supported shelf spaces unless the manufacturer expressly rates the particular product for stacking and gives the relevant limits.
