For tall parents, the Namesake Crewe Electronic Recliner is the first chair on this shortlist to try: it has the highest listed seat and tallest listed seat back. The Babyletto Kiwi manual recliner offers a deeper seat in a narrower chair, while the DaVinci Suzy Flex adds adjustable arms and a headrest. Your leg length, torso length and preferred feeding position still matter more than a “tall parent” label.
Keep feeding and sleep separate. Use a nursery chair for feeding and holding your baby while you are awake and supervising. Never sleep in a glider or recliner while holding a baby. If your baby falls asleep, move them onto their back on a separate, firm, flat sleep surface in a crib, bassinet or play yard that meets current CPSC standards. If you might doze during a feed, avoid the armchair and follow the AAP’s advice for tired parents.
Three nursery gliders worth comparing
These are manufacturer-listed dimensions for the named models. “Seat back height” is the maker’s measurement, not overall chair height or a guarantee of where your head will land. All dimensions below are inches.
| Measurement | Crewe Electronic | Kiwi manual | Suzy Flex listing* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overall width × depth × height | 30.5 × 40 × 42 | 29 × 38 × 41 | 34 × 37 × 41 |
| Seat width × depth | 22 × 20.5 | 22 × 22 | 19 × 21 |
| Seat height | 21.5 | 20.5 | 19.25 |
| Seat back height | 28.5 | 26.5 | 28 |
| Armrest above seat | 6.75 | 8 | 7.5 listed; adjustable arms |
| Fully reclined length | 64.5 | 64 | 63.5 |
| Chair weight / maximum load | 110 lb / 300 lb | 102 lb / 300 lb | 99 lb / 300 lb |
| Recline control | Electric | Manual | Manual |
*Suzy Flex measurement caveat: its written table and dimension photograph disagree. The image shows the arms opened and labels 39 inches overall width, 25 inches seat width, 19.5 inches seat height and 45 inches overall depth, versus the listing values above. The maker does not explain every difference. Ask DaVinci to confirm the measurements in the arm/headrest positions you need before ordering; do not plan a tight space from the table alone.
The fully reclined length is the chair’s extended footprint, not its required gap from the wall. These product pages and linked manuals do not give a numeric rear-wall clearance. Before ordering, ask the maker for the clearance needed by your exact chair and allow space for the back, footrest, swivel and an unobstructed exit.
1. Namesake Crewe Electronic: start here for a higher seat and back
The Crewe Electronic in Performance Cream Eco-Weave with Light Wood Base, M22286PCMEWLB, has a 21.5-inch seat height and 28.5-inch seat back. Those dimensions make it a useful starting point for a tall adult who finds low nursery chairs awkward. Button-operated reclining avoids the leg pressure needed to close the two manual alternatives.
The compromise: its 20.5-inch seat depth is the shallowest here, so long thighs may still feel under-supported. A shorter co-parent may find the higher seat less comfortable. Check both people’s foot contact and head support in person.
The Crewe manual requires a direct wall outlet, with no extension lead, power strip or external battery. Keep its cord clear of the moving base. Its USB ports are for compatible 5V/2A devices; do not use them for laptops, lamps or breast pumps. Unplug the chair and contact the maker if the USB panel becomes excessively hot.
2. Babyletto Kiwi manual: deeper seat, narrower footprint
The Kiwi Recliner and Swivel Glider in Performance Beach Eco-Weave, M11277PBEW, has a 22-inch-deep seat and a 29-inch-wide frame. It is the narrowest chair here while retaining a 22-inch-wide seat, making it worth trying when floor space is limited.
The compromise: the 26.5-inch seat back is lower than either alternative. A long torso can make that more important than the generous seat depth. Its manual calls for a lever and backward pressure to recline, then leg pressure to return upright. Check that operation before committing.
This recommendation is for the manual M11277. Some batches of the separate Kiwi Electronic M11288 were recalled for a USB-module overheating hazard. If you are considering a used electronic Kiwi, check its SKU and batch against the CPSC recall notice; owners of affected chairs should stop using them and follow the recall remedy.
3. DaVinci Suzy Flex: adjustable support, measurements to confirm
The Suzy Flex in Frost Grey, M24386FTG, has adjustable armrests and an adjustable headrest above a 28-inch seat back. It is worth comparing when fixed arms or a fixed headrest feel poorly placed. The published figures list a 7.5-inch armrest-to-seat height but do not state the complete adjustment range.
The compromise: adjustable arms change the space available, and the conflicting dimension image makes an in-person fit check especially useful. Verify hip room, elbow room and seat height in your chosen position. Like the Kiwi, it needs leg pressure to close; follow the Suzy Flex manual for its recline sequence.
How to check the fit before buying
- Try your normal seated posture. Sit back with your feet supported. Check whether the front edge presses behind your knees, whether your thighs feel supported and whether you can glide without sliding forward.
- Check your torso separately from your legs. Lean back and see whether the cushion supports your head in a comfortable position. Overall chair height alone cannot establish this.
- Check arms and controls. Try your usual feeding posture without hunching or raising your shoulders. Make sure you can reach the release or buttons and return upright comfortably.
- Test both caregivers. A chair that fits a tall parent may leave a shorter parent’s feet unsupported. Choose based on both users if you will share it.
- Plan delivery and returns. Check boxed dimensions, stairs and doorways, assembly requirements, return freight and restocking terms for the exact seller and fabric. These chairs weigh roughly 100 pounds; plan how they will reach the room.
Set up the chair for everyday use
Keep children, pets, hands and feet away from reclining mechanisms. Clear the footrest and back’s travel path, return the chair upright and close the footrest before getting out, and inspect it for loose or damaged parts. Follow the exact model’s assembly and operating instructions rather than assuming all recliners work the same way.
A nursery glider is adult seating. Infant swings, loungers, nursing pillows and bedside sleepers are different products and do not belong in a tall-parent chair comparison. The AAP’s safe-sleep guidance explains why a soft chair or infant lounger is not a substitute for a suitable infant sleep surface.
Which one should you choose?
Try the Crewe first if a higher seat and taller back are your priorities. Try the manual Kiwi if seat depth and a narrow frame matter more. Consider the Suzy Flex if adjustable arms and head support are priorities and you can confirm the fit. Choose the chair that supports your own proportions, operates comfortably and fits your room through its full range of motion.
