The right Yamaha WaveRunner decals start with the exact watercraft, not a color or a search result labeled “universal.” For a factory-looking repair, identify the original graphic in Yamaha’s model-year parts catalog. For a coordinated restyle, choose an aftermarket kit whose maker explicitly names your model and year. Registration numbers and small logo stickers serve different purposes and should be bought separately.
This guide compares those routes and looks closely at two model-specific aftermarket listings for older VX Sport watercraft. It is based on manufacturer and parts-catalog research, rather than a claimed installation test or durability trial.
First decide what you are replacing
| Your goal | Appropriate product | Information to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Replace one damaged factory graphic | Genuine Yamaha part | Model year, model code, color application, left/right side and part number |
| Change the coordinated appearance | Model-specific aftermarket graphic kit | Maker’s fitment, selected design/color and included panels |
| Display the vessel registration | Registration lettering and required validation decals | Your registering authority’s size, contrast and placement rules |
| Add a small decorative logo | Dimensioned individual sticker | Material, surface suitability and actual dimensions |
A tuning-fork emblem does not replace a full side graphic. Likewise, “OEM style” describes an aftermarket design approach; it does not make a product a genuine Yamaha replacement part. Neither a cover nor an engine component belongs in a decal comparison simply because it fits the same WaveRunner.
For a factory restoration: use Yamaha’s parts catalog
Start with the official Yamaha WaveRunner parts catalog. Yamaha says that this catalog concerns models sold in the United States and advises reconfirming the model, model year and part numbers with an authorized dealer. It also warns that some older listed parts are no longer available.
As a concrete example, the 2007 VX Sport VX1100CF graphics diagram identifies separate left- and right-hand graphics. “Graphic 1 (LH)” is F1K-U417B-80-00; “Graphic 2 (RH)” is F1K-U417C-80-00. Those are examples for that diagram, not recommendations for every VX. Other entries even distinguish VX and VX Sport applications.
Photograph the entire side of the craft and the damaged piece before ordering. Give the dealer the complete model information and ask it to confirm the exact diagram position. If the opposite side is faded, a new factory part may still look different next to it; “correct part number” does not promise a perfect visual match to weathered material.
AMR Racing VX110 Sport 2005–2009 kit: a coordinated aftermarket option
AMR Racing’s VX110 Sport OEM-style graphic kit explicitly lists Yamaha VX110 Sport WaveRunner 2005–2009 fitment. The maker provides several color previews, including blue. Its product description specifies printed graphics with UV-resistant inks and a protective scratch-resistant laminate.
The blue preview shows a coordinated set of side graphics, smaller panels and logos rather than replacement bodywork. Use the preview to discuss the coverage you need, then confirm the actual kit contents before payment. We would consider this route for an owner of the named VX Sport who wants a unified fresh appearance, rather than someone trying to replace one factory-numbered decal exactly.
AMR describes the graphics as made to order. Ask which design and background choices apply to this particular listing, and check the order proof or confirmation carefully. A different model’s photographed color scheme is not fitment evidence. The manufacturer’s material descriptions also do not establish a measured lifespan in your storage, riding or cleaning conditions.
Invision Artworks VX accent kit: pay attention to the model selector
The Invision Artworks VX accent-graphics listing has distinct Sport, Deluxe and Cruiser selections alongside the colors. The blue Sport selection has SKU VXSPRT110-BL. Its fitment text separates VX110 Sport 2005–2006 from VX1100 Sport 2007–2009, and describes the product as partial accent coverage.
That selector is important: do not buy the Deluxe or Cruiser option because the main title mentions several models. For the Sport comparison here, blue/Sport is the specific selection examined. Invision describes an adhesive-backed kit with a UV-protected, scratch-resistant overlaminate.
The two suppliers’ blue Sport previews are very similar. Their pages do not provide comparable independent material testing that would justify declaring one tougher. Choose using confirmed coverage, exact fitment, design approval, installation support and the current terms for your order. Treat them as aftermarket choices, not proof of factory originality.
Why model-year ranges deserve a second check
Older marketplace titles sometimes group years broadly. During research, an AMR FX140 retail listing advertised 2002–2005 compatibility, while the current manufacturer page for its FX140 CA graphic kit identifies 2003. That discrepancy is a reason to ask the maker, not to assume the broader range is safe.
Record the model year from the craft’s documentation, distinguish it from the year you bought it, and note any replaced body panels. Share clear photographs if the watercraft has been repaired or modified. Do not rely on engine displacement, the seat color or the word “WaveRunner” alone. If a kit needs unexplained trimming to match a stock panel, resolve the mismatch before peeling its backing.
Plan installation before removing the old graphics
- Dry-fit the complete kit. Keep each backing in place while checking panel locations, left/right orientation and alignment. Take reference photos of the existing layout.
- Preserve identification and safety labels. Never cover factory warnings or the hull identification number. Leave the registration area readable.
- Match preparation to the surface. Ask about gelcoat, painted repairs and plastic panels. Avoid copying an aggressive solvent or heat method intended for a different material.
- Use the kit’s own method. Wet and dry application procedures are not interchangeable. Follow the supplier’s instructions for temperature, tools and adhesive handling.
- Allow the specified curing time. Installation just before launching can defeat otherwise careful preparation. Invision’s published instructions call for 48 hours of drying and explicitly warn against covering factory warning labels.
If a panel is cracked, peeling or badly repaired, address the underlying condition first. Graphics are decoration, not a structural repair. For large curved pieces or uncertain surface chemistry, paying an experienced installer can be more sensible than replacing a damaged kit.
Keep registration lettering separate from the decorative design
Plan the lettering area before choosing colors. A dramatic patterned graphic can make a registration number difficult to distinguish. Check your own jurisdiction rather than assuming every stylized “marine” lettering pack is compliant. For example, Texas Parks and Wildlife’s display instructions specify how numbers and validation decals must be positioned.
Before you order
For a small authentic repair, have a Yamaha dealer verify the part number. For an older VX Sport restyle, compare the named AMR and Invision selections after confirming your model and the required panels. Check production timing, shipping, customization rules and returns before approving the design. The best decal purchase is the one whose fit and appearance are settled before adhesive ever touches the craft.
