Compare three Stetson cologne sprays by scent profile, exact bottle size and quantity, with clear distinctions between Original, Black and Preferred Stock.

Stetson Original, Black and Preferred Stock share a woody theme, but they are different fragrances. Start with Original for citrus, sage and a warmer base; consider Black for sandalwood, spice and leather notes; choose Preferred Stock if cypress, fir and aromatic herbs sound more appealing. These are comparisons of the brand’s listed scent profiles, so sampling is the best way to decide which you enjoy.

The shortlist below specifies one bottle of each fragrance. Check the size and the words cologne spray before buying: an aftershave, splash bottle, body spray or gift set is a different purchase even when the Stetson name is the same.

Stetson cologne shortlist

Fragrance Exact bottle compared Brand-listed character Choose it for
Stetson Original One 1.5 fl oz / 44 mL cologne spray Citrus and sage; woods; honey, amber and vanilla The original scent profile
Stetson Black One 1.5 fl oz / 44 mL cologne spray Sandalwood, spices, lavender, suede and leather A wood-and-leather direction
Stetson Preferred Stock One 1.7 fl oz / 50 mL cologne spray Cypress, citrus, fir, sage, leather and musk An aromatic, evergreen direction

1. Stetson Original: the straightforward starting point

Selected bottle: 1.5 fl oz / 44 mL cologne spray, single bottle, Stetson SKU 200885.

Original is the sensible first sample if you want to understand the familiar Stetson fragrance. The brand lists sage and citrus at the top, vetiver, cedar and patchouli in the heart, then musk, honey, amber, vanilla and tonka bean in the base. That combination makes it worth considering if you like woody fragrances with a warmer, sweeter component.

Tradeoff: the sweeter base notes may be less appealing if you want a fragrance centered on herbs and evergreen woods. Compare Preferred Stock before choosing solely because Original is the best-known name.

Stetson offers several Original sizes on the same page. The linked selection is the 1.5 fl oz spray; do not assume another volume has the same dispenser or that a photograph of a larger bottle confirms your selection.

2. Stetson Black: sandalwood, spice and leather notes

Selected bottle: 1.5 fl oz / 44 mL cologne spray, single bottle, Stetson SKU 202071.

Black is a separate scent, rather than a darker bottle of Original. Stetson lists sandalwood at the top, spices, woods and lavender in the heart, and suede and leather at the base. Consider it when those woody and leathery notes are the main attraction.

Tradeoff: a darker scent description does not establish stronger concentration, greater projection or longer wear. If Original’s citrus-and-sage opening is what you like, Black is a change of direction rather than a direct replacement.

The selected size is one 1.5 fl oz spray. A two-pack with similar artwork contains a different quantity, so compare the bottle count as well as the price.

3. Stetson Preferred Stock: an aromatic alternative

Selected bottle: 1.7 fl oz / 50 mL cologne spray, single bottle, Stetson SKU 200738.

Preferred Stock emphasizes a different set of notes: cypress, lavender and citrus at the top; balsam fir, clary sage and nutmeg in the heart; and musk, leather, oakmoss, amber and sandalwood at the base. It is the most relevant comparison here if evergreen and herbal notes appeal more than Original’s honey-and-vanilla base.

Tradeoff: it still has a woody, leathery base, so it is not an obvious substitute for a light aquatic fragrance. The notes help narrow the choice, but they cannot tell you exactly how the finished fragrance will smell to you.

Choose the 1.7 fl oz option for this comparison. The larger 2.25 fl oz option on Stetson’s page is a separate variant, and a two-bottle bundle is not the same purchase.

What to check before buying

Match fragrance, format and concentration label

All three selections are labeled cologne spray. The manufacturer pages do not state a fragrance-oil percentage, so there is no basis for assigning one or ranking these bottles by concentration. Keep cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum, aftershave and body spray labels separate when comparing listings. A splash or pour bottle also has a different dispenser from the sprays selected here.

Compare equal quantities

Check fluid ounces or milliliters per bottle, then the number of bottles. For a gift set, list each component separately: aftershave volume should not be counted as extra cologne. If comparing value, divide the current total price by the total cologne volume and account for delivery charges.

Sample before committing

Scent preferences are personal, and the name or note list cannot guarantee a particular number of hours of wear. Stetson’s pages for these three fragrances state that they are not eligible for returns or exchanges. Check the seller’s current terms before opening a bottle, especially if you are buying a fragrance you have never tried.

Take fragrance sensitivity seriously

None of these scented products is a guaranteed choice for sensitive skin. The FDA’s fragrance guidance advises people concerned about fragrance sensitivities to consider fragrance-free products and check ingredient lists carefully. A scent described as soft, fresh or natural is not a substitute for that check.

Which Stetson should you choose?

For the classic Stetson profile, sample Original first. If sandalwood and leather are your priority, compare Black. If you prefer cypress, fir and herbal notes, make Preferred Stock your first comparison. Once you have chosen the scent, confirm the exact spray bottle and quantity before paying.
