The best ATV for plowing starts with a complete utility vehicle and a plow system matched to its exact year and trim. Our three-model shortlist is the 2026 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS, 2026 Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS and 2026 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4×4 Automatic DCT EPS. Each gives you a different reason to compare it: a factory winch, selectable drive modes or a geared dual-clutch transmission.
These are feature-based recommendations from manufacturer specifications and accessory instructions. We have not tested their snow-clearing speed, traction or durability. The configurations below are explicitly 2026 models; verify the year on any vehicle you are offered, especially when comparing a newer model with a similar name. Manufacturer links help you investigate the vehicle and find a dealer; they do not establish local inventory.
Which ATV belongs on your shortlist?
| Exact vehicle | Why compare it | Plow setup to budget for |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS | Factory 3,500-lb winch and multi-select power steering | Separate mount, frame and blade; EPS does not inherit Ultimate-only Plow Mode |
| 2026 Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS | 686cc engine, power steering and selectable differential-lock 4WD | Model-specific WARN mount plus separately matched blade, push tubes and lift equipment |
| 2026 Honda Foreman Rubicon 4×4 Automatic DCT EPS (TRX520FA6) | 518cc engine and five-speed DCT with reverse | Honda mount, push frame, blade, winch and winch-mount requirements need a complete dealer quote |
1. Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS: start here for a factory winch
The 2026 Sportsman 570 EPS is our first comparison point if you want a documented factory winch instead of beginning with a separate winch installation. Its US specification lists a 3,500-lb steel-cable winch, multi-select electronic power steering, a 567cc engine and an automatic PVT transmission with park, reverse, neutral, low and high positions. The drive system switches between on-demand AWD and 2WD.
Polaris documents a Pro Plow installation for 2021-and-newer Sportsman 450/570 models using integrated mount 2891253, steel frame 2879630 and 66-inch poly blade 2880269. Those are three plow components, not a complete ATV or a claim that the blade comes with the EPS vehicle. Ask the dealer to confirm the complete bill of materials against your exact machine and the Polaris installation instructions.
The main limitation is trim confusion. Polaris reserves automatic Plow Mode for the 570 Ultimate; do not assume a 570 EPS will raise and lower its blade when you shift. Choose the EPS for its documented equipment, then compare the full fitted cost with any other trim you are considering.
2. Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS: compare its drive controls
The 2026 Kodiak 700 EPS is worth comparing if you want a utility ATV with a larger-displacement engine and selectable drive modes. Yamaha specifies a 686cc engine and an Ultramatic CVT with high, low and reverse. Its On-Command system offers 2WD, limited-slip 4WD and fully locked differential 4WD, while the EPS trim adds power steering. These are useful features to evaluate on a dealer demonstration; they are not a promise that it will push more snow than the other models.
Yamaha Motor’s 2026 accessory catalog, page 81 lists WARN plow mount DBY-10636-00-00 for 2016–2026 Kodiak 700 models. That establishes a specific mounting option, not a ready-to-plow package. Have the dealer identify the compatible blade, push-tube assembly and lifting equipment together. The model’s configurator lists winches as accessories, so do not treat an optional winch as included merely because it appears in a build menu.
Choose this model when its controls and riding position suit you and the complete plow quote makes sense. If you compare it with the base Kodiak 700 or a different model year, recheck the steering, drive equipment and mount application instead of transferring this EPS specification to the other machine.
3. Honda Foreman Rubicon DCT EPS: compare the geared transmission
The 2026 FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4×4 Automatic DCT EPS is the choice to investigate if you prefer a geared automatic transmission. The exact model is TRX520FA6: Honda lists a 518cc engine, five-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission with reverse, electric power steering and independent rear suspension. Honda specifically highlights the DCT models’ reverse lever for repetitive forward/reverse work such as snow plowing.
Honda’s current TRX520 accessory-instruction index links a mount sheet for post-2020 TRX420/520 applications. The actual document identifies plate 0SL75-HR3-A10 and requires winch mount kit 08L70-HR6-MF0 and a separately sold winch. A separate Honda sheet identifies push frame 0SL70-HR3-A00 and 52-inch blade 0SL76-HR3-A00. The index is on Honda Canada, so have your US dealer confirm the exact VIN application, current part numbers and local supply before ordering.
The DCT EPS, foot-shift EPS and Deluxe versions are distinct configurations. A vehicle quote that says only “Rubicon” is not specific enough for this comparison. Request the full model code and an itemized plow package; the transmission preference does not settle which machine will work best on your property.
Compare the whole plowing package
Treat the vehicle, vehicle-specific mount, push frame or push tubes, blade and lift system as separate parts of the purchase. The Polaris and Honda instructions illustrate why a single “plow mount” price cannot stand in for the total setup. Ask for a quote that also states installation, required hardware and any additional equipment, then compare that total with a snowblower or a snow-removal service if plowing is your only reason for buying an ATV.
Before choosing, give the dealer the actual job: gravel or another permitted surface, slopes, tight turns, obstacles, snow-storage space and expected snowfall. Ask whether the vehicle and plow manuals permit that use. Engine size, towing capacity and winch pull rating do not by themselves establish a snow-depth limit or safe slope for plowing. We would not choose solely from the largest number on a specification sheet.
For a used vehicle, ask to see the model/VIN, maintenance records and identification labels on the installed plow components. Have a qualified technician check the chassis, steering, brakes, tires, winch and mounting hardware before you rely on a seller’s “ready for winter” description. A photographed blade does not prove that the mount is correct or the setup is complete.
Safety checks before the first use
Follow the CPSC’s ATV safety guidance: get hands-on training, wear a helmet and protective gear, avoid alcohol, and keep children under 16 off adult ATVs. Stay off paved roads and do not ride on public roads except permitted crossings. Carry only the number of riders the vehicle is designed for. A snow-covered paved road does not become an appropriate ATV worksite simply because you have attached a plow.
Read the vehicle, winch and plow instructions together. Polaris’s installation guidance specifies a level surface, park, parking brake and removed key before accessory installation; it also requires checking the lift travel so the winch does not pull beyond the plow’s intended maximum. Honda warns that a winch cable can break and a raised blade can fall: keep your feet out from under it. Have the dealer demonstrate the installed system and its limits before using it.
Frequently asked questions
Which ATV would we compare first for plowing?
Start with the 2026 Polaris Sportsman 570 EPS if the factory winch is a priority, the 2026 Yamaha Kodiak 700 EPS if you want to compare its drive-mode controls, and the 2026 Honda Rubicon DCT EPS if a geared automatic appeals to you. The final choice depends on the fitted plow package, the permitted worksite and local service support.
Does buying one of these ATVs include a snow plow?
Do not assume so. The vehicle and plow system must be quoted explicitly. Even the Polaris EPS’s listed factory winch is not the same thing as an included mount, frame and blade. Confirm every component before accepting a complete-package price.
Will one universal mount fit all three?
Do not buy on that assumption. The documented Polaris, Yamaha and Honda mounting options have different part numbers and application scopes. Use the exact model year and vehicle code, plus the chosen blade/frame system, for the fit check.
Is a 700cc-class ATV automatically better than a 500cc-class model?
No universal winner follows from displacement alone. Compare transmission and steering controls, the approved plow system, the job conditions and the complete price. This shortlist does not claim a tested snow-depth capacity or rank the machines by how much snow they can push.
Can you use an ATV to plow a paved public road?
CPSC guidance says to stay off paved roads and not ride on public roads except permitted crossings. Do not treat a plow attachment as permission to ignore that guidance. Discuss a suitable alternative machine or service for work that would require inappropriate ATV operation.
